DIY FUNERALS

Although most funerals are arranged by Funeral Directors themselves, they are often happy for families and friends to take as active a role in the organisation of the funeral and service as you want. Being part of this process may well help you feel you have helped your loved ones wishes be upheld and had that last opportunity to show them how much you love them.

Funerals can be completely independently arranged, whether it’s burial or cremation but it is worth being aware that there are copious amounts of rules, regulations and paperwork that goes with it. Not to mention time consuming.

 NON-RELIGIOUS FUNERALS

A non-religious funeral simply means a funeral that does not follow a pre-set religious service format.  Non-religious funerals can be linked to a humanist way of thinking, but you need not be humanist or otherwise to have a non-religious funeral.

There are organisations that offer advice that have nothing to do with any religious beliefs.

  WOODLAND BURIALS / GREEN FUNERALS

Woodland or Green funerals refer to meadow or woodland burials. The body is returned to nature in the beautiful surroundings of the site. A coffin made from biodegradable materials such as willow or chipboard is often included in such funerals. There are many woodland burial sites all over the country.

It is worth noting however that memorials and headstones are not permitted in green sites but the planting of trees to mark the grave site is often allowed.

 CRYONICS

No doubt with the movie world and the ongoing interest in Cryonics from America you will have some idea behind the concept. The idea being the freezing the whole body or just a portion ie the brain of a person once deceased, until it becomes scientifically possible to bring them back to enjoy a second life. It is worth remembering that there is absolutely no evidence that this will ever be possible.

 SPACE SERVICES

Some companies in America offer the option of Space Services, launching a symbolic portion of cremated remains into Earths orbit, onto the lunar surface or into deep space.
