About Us

The idea for Funeral in Print came in the middle of the night as I was reflecting on the experience of organising my fathers and grandparents funerals.  Luckily for us, my mother already had a fair idea of some of the literature she wanted to include, but we did struggle with a few things.

Despite both having good English skills, finding literature for funeral services really isn’t something you think about, and it isn’t something you want to think about even when you have to.

We struggled finding original hymn lyrics, poems that were suitable and didn’t have the energy or time to begin to look or even know where to look.  Having sadly been to many other funerals, before organising them for close loved ones, we knew what we had to do and what had to be organised, but for people who have never been to any, having to organise one must be terribly difficult.

Funeral in Print therefore, was born to help people with the organisation of literature for funeral services, hopefully providing you with almost all you need, or at least a start and some ideas.  It contains popular and less well known literature, hopefully offering something relevant for everyone.  Its production comes from months of searching all sorts of resources.

I wrote a tribute for my fathers’ funeral and recorded it onto a tape to be played as i knew I wouldn’t be able to stand up and speak and didn’t want that added pressure.  It was simple to write the tribute as I wrote it from the point of view of him as a father, he was such a lovely dad the words came out easily for me but we then had to write one about his life in general.  How can you condense 64 years of life and a fantastic man into five minutes and 20 sentences!  Not an easy task.  So we have also added on the site some hopefully useful tips on writing tributes.

Funeral in Print comes to you with the sincerest hope that it is some aid to you over the following days/weeks.
